Liaison with Huddersfield University

In my speech last year I said ‘We have a university…. Students are sponsored and prizes given.. It would be nice to see some of them at lectures and being able to draw on the vast experience of our members’
We have made some progress here with 23 students/Staff attending the Dominic Dormeuil Lecture and also several attending the visits to Westwood Yarns and Abraham Moon. I hope we will be able to make further progress here in the coming year.
We have also decided to give sponsorship to the Textile Crafts ‘Sample’ book.
I do occasionally go into the Textile Department to meet staff and students, looking at their work. I am also supporting and mentoring a 2nd year student.
I am also going up to the University on April 23rd to meet Heads of Department to discuss further developments
There have been no bursaries awarded this year. An initial enquiry was made but this was not followed up by the University

Other requests

The committee are also looking into supporting the Colne Valley museum that have just purchased the last in the row of weaver cottages, which make up the museum, but need considerable funds to integrate this.

Further developments within the Society

Web site changes have been slow but we hope it will be up and running properly next year
