The Leeds Fashion Initiative (LFI) is backed by European and Leeds City Council funding, and supported by local educational establishments - including the University of Huddersfield - and businesses, such as A W Hainsworth & Sons and Lambert’s Yard.

It aims to build on the region’s textiles heritage and reinvigorate its fashion, clothing and manufacturing industries in order to establish Leeds as a major international centre for independent fashion design and independent fashion retailing.

Key to the initiative is the involvement of the Centre for Fashion Enterprise (part of London College of Fashion), which will develop a three-year strategy, including plans for the first Fashion Design Incubator outside the capital.

The launch show featured a mix of work by young local designers and established brands, including Agi & Sam, Giles Deacon, Aquascutum and Terry de Havilland.
